USA Championships Training Journal - Journey to 2003

I am excited with the possibilities this year holds. In order to elevate myself to the next level I know I will need a concentrated effort all year long and I am determined to get the job done. I always say that results don't happen by accident and in order to make my climb I need to take full advantage of all the time I have.

Paul and I were reflecting on last year and the USA Championships as we were discussing the initial part of my plan for 2003. When we were outlining some early diet and cardio objectives, the thought crossed my mind “why not share this part of my quest for the 2003 USA's with everyone?” I have been sharing my pre-contest preparation with you for the last few shows but why not bring you along for the entire year. After all, the beginning months are just as important as the end because when you stand onstage the results are the culmination of a whole year of work.

I mentioned my idea to Paul and he liked it. He also felt that people could benefit from seeing exactly what we do when we are working to pack on as much lean muscle as possible. The truth is everyone who reads my journal may not have an interest in competing but many people do have an interest in getting bigger and staying lean. Following along with the nutritional and training strategies we implement could serve as a great guide to help you achieve those goals.

After we tossed around some ideas we decided to document the entire year leading up to the 2003 USA Championships. Once again I will share all aspects of my training with you. Every Friday I will post a review of the entire week. I'll include a discussion on a weekly topic, a review of each workout, my current diet and supplementation plans, weekly goals and objectives plus I'll keep you up to speed with the daily happenings in and around the AST Sports Science headquarters. I plan to keep this weekly format until we approach the last 20 weeks of preparation. At that point I'll switch over to daily entries like my previous journals.

I feel like this year is a new beginning for me. I have very specific goals and know what I have to work on in order to climb the ranks at the USA's. I have a clear vision of what I want to achieve and know it's just a matter of continual “AST Execution” to get me there.

Last year I jumped to a higher level of competition and now I have to take my game up a few notches. I learned a great deal over the past several months as far as nutrient timing and exercise execution are concerned. Now I need to apply that knowledge and be open to continually absorb more information.

I am lucky to be able to work so closely with the creator of Max-OT himself, Paul Delia. Paul is the mastermind behind my training and nutrition and has the ability to make me ask more of myself in and out of the gym. I know he will be giving me that extra push to keep performing at a higher level as well as the support to help me improve on the mental aspects of training. I am also fortunate to have experts like Paul Cribb, Skip La Cour, Derik Farnsworth and Earl Snyder in my corner. I will use all of the information I can gather and share it with you as I implement what I learn.

I am ready to get this show on the road and begin my journey to 2003. I hope you are ready too.
